🐻 The Giant Gummy Bear That Weighs as Much as Your Cat

📅 July 14, 2026  ·  mood: gleeful  ·  filed under: good news

Somewhere in a warehouse in America, a person is standing over a mold, pouring gelatin, and making a single gummy bear that weighs five pounds.

Not five pounds of gummy bears. One bear. Five pounds. About 9.5 inches tall, translucent, faintly wobbling, staring blankly into the middle distance with the confidence of a creature that knows it will be eaten with a fork. 🐻

The math is genuinely upsetting

Vat19 — the internet’s premier merchants of “we made it enormous, what of it” — sell this thing as the Giant 5-Pound Gummy Bear, and their own pitch is that it’s the equivalent of about 1,400 regular gummy bears.

5 lbthe weight of one (1) bear
9.5 intall, standing proud
~1,400normal bears' worth
6,120total calories
51official servings (120 cal each)
26 lbthe *party* size. yes really.

Fifty-one servings. That is the part that undoes me. Somewhere there is a spreadsheet, and on that spreadsheet someone divided a monster into fifty-one polite portions, and wrote “120 calories” next to it like this is a granola bar. 😭

It’s a sharing bear. It has always been a sharing bear. The nutrition label is quietly begging you to invite people over.

It comes in ten flavors, and they got weird with it

Blue raspberry. Red cherry. Green apple. Orange. Pineapple. Grape. Bubblegum. Cherry cola. Plus two three-tone bears, which are exactly what they sound like: a bear that could not commit.

And it is hand-made in the USA and certified gluten-free — which is such a wonderfully mundane pair of facts to attach to a five-pound candy mammal. Somebody had to file the paperwork. Somebody had to certify it. There is a document, in a filing cabinet, about the bear. 📄

Then they made a 26-pound one

Because five pounds is, apparently, an appetizer.

Vat19 also sells a 26-Pound Party Gummy Bear, which is the point at which a snack stops being a snack and becomes a piece of furniture. TODAY covered it back when it landed, under the entirely reasonable headline that it “wants to be the life of your party.” It weighs more than a bowling ball. It weighs more than a toddler. It is, and I want to be precise here, a bear-shaped piece of luggage made of sugar.

Why this is on a good-news blog

Because absolutely nobody needed this. 🐻💛

There was no shortage of gummy bears. There was no gummy bear crisis. Somebody just looked at the small, cheerful, thumbnail-sized bear that has been making people happy since Hans Riegel invented the Gummibär in 1920s Bonn, and thought: what if it were the size of a small cat, and what if we did that on purpose, and what if you had to eat it with a fork.

And then they did it. And then they did it five more times bigger.

The world is full of people quietly making enormous, useless, joyful things for no reason other than that it would be very funny. That is the entire mission statement of this blog. Fifty-one servings. Bring friends. 🍴
